Hunan's steel export volume increased in the first five months

Today, reporters learned from Changsha Customs that from January to May 2019, Hunan exported 760,000 tons of steel, up 80.5% year-on-year; valued at 4.57 billion yuan, doubled; the average export price was 6010.2 yuan per ton, up 10.9%.

The price of raw iron ore rose, stimulating steel prices. According to industry data, the major mine disaster of Vale, one of the four largest iron ore giants in the world, caused the annual output of iron ore to shrink by 60 million to 70 million tons, while the price of iron ore rose from $60/ton to $100/ton. The increase was over 60%, setting a new high for five years.

For a long time, South Korea is the largest export market for steel in Hunan, and the main export products are plates for shipbuilding. With the recovery of the Korean shipbuilding industry, Hunan's steel exports to South Korea in the first five months were 124,000 tons, an increase of 217% year-on-year, accounting for 16.3% of Hunan's total steel exports during the same period, which greatly boosted the growth of Hunan's steel exports.

At the same time, “One Belt and One Road” stimulated new steel export markets, and Hunan steel enterprises ushered in new opportunities. The countries along the “Belt and Road” generally have the status quo of backward infrastructure. In terms of infrastructure construction, the demand for steel in China has increased. Hunan steel enterprises rely on the “One Belt, One Road” strategy to actively expand the national markets along the line, with remarkable results. At present, the UAE has become the second largest destination country for steel exports in Hunan Province, and its exports to countries such as Algeria, Kuwait, Myanmar and Nigeria have also multiplied.
