Global crude steel production increased by 5.4% year on year in May 2019.

According to the data of the World Iron and Steel Association, crude steel output of 64 countries included in the World Iron and Steel Association statistics in May 2019 was 162.7 million tons, an increase of 5.4% compared with the same period last year.
In May 2019, China's crude steel output was 89.1 million tons, an increase of 10.0% over the same period last year. India's crude steel output in May was 9.2 million tons, up 5.1% from a year earlier. Japan's crude steel output in May was 8.7 million tons, down 4.6% year on year. South Korea's crude steel output in May was 6.4 million tons, up 2.2% year on year. In the EU region, the crude steel output of Italy in May 2019 was 2.2 million tons, up 5.7% from the same period last year; that of France in May was 1.2 million tons, down 7.6% from the same period last year; and that of Spain in May was 1.3 million tons, down 7.1% from the same period last year. In May 2019, crude steel production in the United States was 7.7 million tons, up 1.1% from the same period last year.
