Imports of Special Steel Bars in Korea Increased

According to the data released recently by Korea Iron and Steel Association, from January to April, the import of special steel bars in Korea increased to 1.296 million tons.
It is understood that in 2018, the penetration rate of imports of special steel bars in Korea (referring to the proportion of imports of a country in its total consumption) was 26.7%. Since 2019, the import of special steel bars in Korea has resumed growth, reaching 326,900 tons in April, with an import penetration rate of 32.9%.
According to some analysis, the main reason for the increase in imports of Korean special steel bars is that the price of such steel bars imported from China is lower. From January to April this year, the total imports of special steel bars from Korea surged 59.5% year-on-year, and the total imports from China increased 85.0% year-on-year.
