Columbia Steel Works boycott Chinese and Turkish threaded steel
Release time:Jun 20, 2019 From:admin
According to Colombia's Portfolio Daily on June 20, the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs of Colombia has warned about the possibility of importing about 4000 tons of alloy bars from China in the future, arguing that these imported steel products compete with the national industry of Colombia and do not meet the relevant technical standards.
Camila Toro, president of the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs of Colombia, said that Colombia imported screw steel from China and Turkey but did not sign free trade agreements with these countries, which required tariffs, thus causing some exporters to declare falsely in order to pay less taxes; while other countries that had signed free trade agreements with Colombia did not need to pay tariffs, which was conducive to exporters'self-determination. According to the regulations, the products are classified according to the label.
The branch said that the situation had caused many consequences. First, from the beginning of the year to the end of February, illegal imports of steel products from China and Turkey had led to a loss of 25 billion pesos tax revenue. Second, since 2014, Colombia has imported 154,000 tons of screw steel for construction industry, many of which importers (led by China and Turkey) deliberately changed steel products to avoid tariffs. Technological composition, resulting in hidden dangers of building quality (the branch quoted metallurgical expert Jairo Carrero as saying that adding alloys to steel would increase its hardness, but reduce its ductility and plasticity, resulting in buildings unable to withstand disasters such as earthquakes); third, China and Turkey's iron and steel industry are supported by high subsidies from the government. Take China as an example, the iron and steel industry can be called the government's own industry. It does not conform to market economy standards. These subsidized steel products entered the market of Colombia, seriously impacting the national industry of Colombia.
