Camila Toro, president of the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs of Colombia, said that Colombia imported screw steel from China and Turkey but did not sign free trade agreements with these countries, which required tariffs, thus causing some exporters to declare falsely in order to pay less taxes; while other countries that had signed free trade agreements with Colombia did not need to pay tariffs, which was conducive to exporters'self-determination. The branch said that the situation had caused many consequences. First, from the beginning of the year to the end of February, illegal imports of steel products from China and Turkey had led to a loss of 25 billion pesos tax revenue. Second, since 2014, Colombia has imported 154,000 tons of screw steel for construction industry, many of which importers (led by China and Turkey) deliberately changed steel products to avoid tariffs. These subsidized steel products entered the market of Colombia, seriously impacting the national industry of Colombia.
