Swiss ABB will supply voestal with electromagnetic stirrer equipped with ArcSave system
Release time:Sep 19, 2019 From:admin
Vostalpine AG recently ordered a magnetic stirrer with ArcSave technology from ABB Switzerland for the most advanced special steel plant (205,000 tons/year) built by VAI in Kapfenberg. The electromagnetic stirrer will be installed in a 55-ton energy-saving electric arc furnace to optimize the steelmaking process. The equipment is expected to be delivered to the factory in March 2020.
The ArcSave system does not require contact with the bottom of the electric arc furnace to enhance agitation during bulk scrap smelting and reduce stratification by forced convection. The furnace operation is improved by homogenizing the temperature distribution and chemical composition compared to the natural convection alone, while accelerating the melting of scrap iron and iron alloy. The ArcSave system also helps reduce environmental impact by reducing energy consumption, process additives (alloys and limes) and consumables (electrodes).
On April 24, 2018, voestalpine held a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the 350 million euro Kapfenberg plant. Once the new high-tech special steel plant is put into production, it will replace the existing Bohler Edelstahl plant of VAI.
The Kapfenberg plant is designed to produce high quality steel products for the international aerospace, oil and gas, tool manufacturing and other industries.
The preparation work for the Kapfenberg factory site has been completed. The access, assembly area and infrastructure required by the subcontractor are also in operation. Construction began in the spring of 2018 on the foundation of the plant, and construction is expected to be completed in February 2020. At present, the new factory industrial equipment license has been issued.
The Kapfenberg plant will also serve as a benchmark for environmental and energy efficiency. The heart of the plant will be an electric arc furnace that uses only the electricity generated by renewable energy. Closed cooling water circulation and efficient heat recovery and dedusting systems will help conserve resources and reduce emissions.
