Vale intends to build new railroads and ports for the Carajas iron mine to prepare for expansion

Release time:Jun 19, 2019 From:admin

Vale SA said on Tuesday that the company is considering building a new railroad and port in Para State, Brazil, to prepare for the expansion of its Carajas Serra Sul iron ore capacity.

The Carajas Serra Sul iron mine is the company's largest mining project ever.

The new railway will extend 400 kilometers from the current Carajas railway to the port of Vila do Conde in Maranhao, northeastern Brazil.

Last month, Vale said it was considering doubling the annual production of its Serra Sul Carajas iron ore mine, which is located at S11D, to 150 million tons per year, which would enable the company to reduce the use of tailings dams.

Vale expects S11D project iron ore production this year will reach 75 million tons, and production is expected to increase to 90 million tons by 2020
