Shandong port iron ore import price increase

Release time:Jun 05, 2019 From:admin

In the first four months of this year, the import of iron ore and concentrates at Shandong Port was 64.391 million tons, an increase of 0.3% over the same period of last year; the value was 35.03 billion yuan, an increase of 20.1%; the average price was 544 yuan per ton, up 19.8%.

Among them, in April, Shandong Port imported 13.001 million tons of iron ore, a decrease of 7.8%; value of 8.51 billion yuan, an increase of 37.9%; average price of 616.3 yuan per ton, up 49.5%.

It is understood that in January this year, the monthly import volume of iron ore in Shandong Port continued its growth at the end of last year, rising to 19.282 million tons, a new high since January 2016, and then continued to fall, decreasing by 7.3% in April, to 2017. The new low since August; the monthly average import price continued to rise, the average import price in April climbed to a new high since June 2014, up 9.8% from the previous month.

Australia and Brazil are the main sources of iron ore imports from Shandong. In April this year, Shandong Port imported 5.57 million tons of iron ore from Australia, a decrease of 40%, accounting for 41.7%; imports from Brazil were 4.952 million tons, an increase of 73.6%, accounting for 35.9%; imports from Peru, South Africa and Ukraine were respectively 733,000 tons. 680,000 tons, 556,000 tons, accounting for 5.3%, 4.9%, 4%.

According to Qingdao Customs, the shipment of Australian iron ore has fallen sharply, resulting in a significant reduction in iron ore imports. Australia's two major mines, BHP Billiton and Rio Tinto, were affected by the hurricane to reduce shipments, while the hurricane affected Australia's three major iron ore shipment ports for a total of 5.5 days (from the afternoon of March 21 to the evening of March 26). The data shows that the export volume of Australian iron ore for the first four months was 259 million tons, down from 280 million tons in the same period last year.

At the same time, the supply of iron ore is insufficient, steel production capacity is continuously released, and the import price is pushed up. Due to the dam breach in the Vale in January this year, Brazil’s iron ore exports in April hit a new low since 2012. In April, Brazilian iron ore exports fell to 18.34 million tons, compared with 25.88 million tons in the same period last year. The export volume in March was 22.18 million tons; in Australia affected by the hurricane, the supply of iron ore was also affected.
