Rio Tinto plans to expand WestAngelas iron ore project

Rio Tinto plans to expand the WestAngelas iron ore project in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, which has now been approved by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), indicating that the project has taken another step forward. The West Angelas iron ore deposits will expand 4,100 hectares to 26,700 hectares. After the expansion of the project, the production capacity will reach 34 million tons.
The WestAngelas expansion project is part of the RobeRiver iron ore project to produce premium Pilbara mixed ore and Lob River lump ore.
Rio Tinto Iron Ore CEO Chris Salisbury said that “the new Robe Valley deposit will enable us to continue to provide high-value products to our long-term customers in Asia,” Rio Tinto plans to start construction this year and is expected to start production in 2021.
